Scrutinies and inquiries

  • Safer Neighbourhoods
    A key commitment in Met Forward, the MPAs strategic mission, was to undertake a Safer Neighbourhoods scrutiny. This focuses on the structure of the Safer Neighbourhoods Teams in the MPS..
  • Civil Liberties Panel
    The panel convenes to consider issues on a priority basis as agreed by the MPA. It is a standing panel, and meets as the need arises
  • Race and Faith Inquiry [July 2010]
    The independent Race and Faith inquiry panel has published its report exploring diversity issues within the Metropolitan Police Service.
  • Seen and Heard - young people, policing and crime: An MPA report [November 2008]
    This MPA youth scrutiny was conducted between September 2007 and May 2008. The final scrutiny report, making 52 recommendations for the MPS and other organisations, was accepted by the MPA Full Authority meeting in June 2008.
  • Stockwell [July 2008]
    On Friday 22 July 2005 Jean Charles de Menezes was shot by MPS officers at Stockwell underground station following anti terrorist operations resulting from the terrorist bombing of the London transport system on 7 July 2005 and the failed terrorist attacks on the transport system on 21 July 2005. The decision to undertake the scrutiny followed the publication of the two reports into the shooting by the IPCC and a guilty verdict as a result of the prosecution of the MPS under Health and Safety legislation.

  • Drugs [May 2007]

    A short scrutiny into the approach taken by the MPS to managing media and communications.
  • Mental Health & Policing - MPA/NHS joint review [October 2005]
    An MPA joint review with key partners in the NHS, containing 33 recommendations to ensure the police response to Londoners experiencing mental illness is appropriate.

  • Morris Inquiry [December 2004]
    The independent inquiry into professional standards and employment matters in the MPS, commissioned by the MPA.

  • Stop and Search [May 2004]
    Presents 55 recommendations on ways in which stop and search practice can move forward.
  • Gun Crime [February 2004]
    Focuses on the MPS’ strategic response to gun crime rather than the immediate operational response to an armed incident.

    Presents 38 recommendations aimed at improving rape investigation and victim care.
